Academy manager Brian McClair says the desire to win the FA Youth Cup sets it apart from other competitions for Manchester United's youngsters.
The club will always have a special affinity with the trophy, having won it more than any other side, and McClair says the competition gives the players a chance to adopt a more professional mindset of obtaining results above all else.
"We like the FA Youth Cup," McClair told ManUtd.com ahead of Monday's trip to Burnley for the third round tie. "It’s one thing we can prepare for in a different way because you want to win. So the preparation is down to what factors can influence that.
"With the games like the Under-19s in the UEFA Youth League and the Academy games on a Saturday morning, they’re fine and a lot of practice. Everybody wants to win but the performance is the most important thing. When it comes to the Youth Cup, you still have those ideas in mind and still want to play well with the players expressing themselves, but you want to win the game.
"So the work pre-match and post-match is slightly different. It gives them a little opportunity to see what it’s like for the first team because they are preparing to win every game they play. The Youth Cup gives the lads a of that flavour."
