Nintendo appears to be set to unveil their strategy for mobile devices going forward this Wednesday at the company’s weekly quarterly briefing. While some financial analysts such as Michael Pachter believe that Nintendo should release their backlog of games onto mobile devices because of a dwindling handheld market, supposedly due to mobile gaming, Nintendo has reportedly decided to go a different route. A Japanese publication Nikkei has reported that Nintendo is planning to release playable mini-games, game demos, and videos onto mobile devices free of charge in order to promote both their software and hardware in order to attract prospective customers.
There is still some uncertainty as to how game demos would work on smartphones and tablets, as the 3DS and Wii U both utilize two screens, as well as buttons, but it would be a great way to utilize the mobile market while still keeping Nintendo games on Nintendo systems. As smartphones and tablets have become much more widespread in recent years, the potential for marketing through these devices is almost limitless.
