我不知道你如何唱歌，我的大诗人！
我一直在安静的惊叹中聆听你的歌声。
你音乐的光辉照亮了世界。
你音乐的生命气息在天宇奔腾。
你神圣的歌流冲破了一切顽石的阻隔，
永不停止地向前飞奔。
我的心渴望加入你的歌咏，
但徒劳努力而发不出声音。
我想说话，但话语成不了歌声，
我只能迷茫地呼喊。
啊，在你音乐的天罗地网里，
你俘获了我的心，我的大诗人！

I know not how thou singest, my master! I ever listen in silent amazement.
The light of thy music illumines the world. The life breath of thy music runs from sky to sky. The holy stream of thy music breaks through all stony obstacles and rushes on.
My heart longs to join in thy song, but vainly struggles for a voice. I would speak, but speech breaks not into song, and I cry out baffled. Ah, thou hast made my heart captive in the endless meshes of thy music, my master!
一、诗的大意
世界（神）在唱着一首和谐、大爱的生命之歌，它无所不在，无时不在。虽然“我”自觉还不配融入其中，但“我”迷恋它，一心向往它。
二、注释
第一节
master：主人、音乐大师、大诗人等，是泰戈尔对他的神的称呼之一，实质上就是神的显现，即世界。清风习习、流水潺潺、树叶簌簌、小鸟叽叽，这世界永远都在唱着自由快乐的歌。快乐和谐的歌是怎么唱出来的？我们凡夫俗子是无法知晓的。泰戈尔作品中，或者说在印度古代，诗人写的诗都是能唱出来的，既是诗也是歌。对世界是个大诗人的理解可见泰戈尔下面的两段文字。
We see that he who is before everything else is the same to-day. Every note of the song of creation comes fresh from his voice. The universe is not a mere echo, reverberating from sky to sky, like a homeless wanderer--the echo of an old song sung once for all in the dim beginning of things and then left orphaned. Every moment it comes from the heart of the master, it is breathed in his breath.（《THE REALISATION OF LIFE》）
Therefore it is we feel that this world is a creation; that in its centre there is a living idea which reveals itself in an eternal symphony, played on innumerable instruments, all keeping perfect time. We know that this great world-verse, that runs from sky to sky, is not made for the mere enumeration of facts—it is not "Thirty days hath September"—it has its direct revelation in our delight. That delight gives us the key to the truth of existence; it is personality acting upon personalities through incessant manifestations. The solicitor does not sing to his client, but the bridegroom sings to his bride. And when our soul is stirred by the song, we know it claims no fees from us; but it brings the tribute of love and a call from the bridegroom.（《CREATIVE UNITY》）
amazement：惊奇、惊叹。世界之歌如此美妙动人，“我”大为惊叹，永远都听不够，永远都在安静地聆听。
第二节
thy music：你的音乐，指世界之歌，即世界和谐统一的运转旋律，体现在斗转星移、季节变换、鸟语花香……
life breath：生命的气息，指世界和谐统一的表现，例如阳光、和风、流水，等等。世界的生命气息是永恒的。
from sky to sky：从天边到天边，可理解为世界（宇宙）各个角落。按印度古代哲学与宗教，世界（宇宙）来源于神，世界的气息就是神的气息。
obstacles：阻隔、障碍，指人的贪欲、自私小我，它阻碍了人与世界融为一体。神（世界）的歌声就是要打破这样的障碍，让人突破自我，走进广阔的世界。
rush on：不停地向前奔涌，指世界的运转永不停歇，世界之魂永远在歌唱。
第三节
vainly：徒劳，指“我”的灵魂虽然向往世界，但却无法到达它，也就是“我”的灵魂还不纯洁，还不能得到世界（神）的接纳，无法与世界合拍。
cry out baffled：cry out指呼喊；baffled指迷茫、困惑。“我”陷于贪欲、小我自私，无法解脱，只能迷茫地呼喊着，盼望神来解救。
meshes：网，指神的音乐犹如天罗地网，无所不在，抓住了“我”，迷住了“我”，“我”的灵魂甘愿被它捕获，“我”愿与世界融为一体。
